About The Way

The Way Counseling is devoted to serving others. We are Christ-Centered Mental Health Professionals working in collaboration with community partners to help you heal. The Way Counseling promotes a healing journey with a holistic understanding that body, soul and spirit should not be separated, but rather, are interconnected and the focus is wholeness.

The Way Counseling strives to help individuals and families using psychotherapy integration in tandem with Biblical principles and Christian faith. Together with mind-body approaches and community connections, The Way Counseling seeks to improve and restore mental, physical and emotional well-being. Using a whole-person approach, The Way Counseling works to address mental health and addiction problems while also considering environmental and lifestyle factors such as sleep, body movement, nutrition, stress, connections, individuality and so much more to promote optimal functioning in body, soul and spirit.

Owner/Provider, Corna Rutherford is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor-Supervisor, Certified Faith Based Clinical Counselor, and a Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional.

About Me

My journey began in the foothills of rural Appalachia back in a holler located in Perry County, Kentucky. "From the holler to here." It's been a long journey with many ups and downs, blessings and struggles. Through it all my God has walked with me even when I could not see. 

I've been an Integrative Therapist for more than 8 years. I have a combination of more than 18 years of experience in public services along with more than 10 years of community-based case management and mental health services working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. I have a Master of Arts in Addiction Counseling and a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling clinical mental health specialization.

Community Connections

The Way Counseling works in collaboration with community partners promoting health and wholeness. The Way Counseling believes in integrative health incorporating complimentary/alternative therapies together with conventional medical care to achieve optimal health and healing. Integrative health is individualized and emphasizes a multi-pronged approach to health and wellness. The goal is to treat the whole person. The Way Counseling encourages activities that promote stress management, good nutrition, spiritual growth, body movement, health responsibility and positive relationships. The Way Counseling works together with community partners for your overall well-being.

Information about Community Connections

Complementary/Alternative

Complementary/Alternative Medicine (CAM) through integration is an approach combining conventional medicine with CAM practices. CAM is any product or practice that falls beyond the scope of conventional medicine.

Examples: Health Coaches, Massage Therapists, Nutritionists, Aromatherapy, Fitness Instructors, Herbalists, Meditation, Acupuncturists, Chefs, Biofeedback, Music/Art, Chiropractics, Naturopaths and so forth.

Conventional

Conventional medicine, sometimes called allopathic medicine, biomedicine, Western, mainstream, or orthodox medicine, is a system in which health professionals treat symptoms and diseases using drugs, radiation, and/or surgery.

Examples: Primary Care Physicians (M.D./D.O.), Nurses, Pharmacists, Therapists, Surgeons, Radiologists, Physician Assistants, OB-GYNs, Physical Rehabilitation, and so forth.
